The $5.8 million Kuakini project has been operational since September 2014 and is delivering significant economic, operational, and environmental value for the hospital. The project was completed on time and on budget and is reducing CO2 emissions by 2,956 tons per year, saving 3.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and 10,800 therms of natural gas annually. This first-of-its-kind efficiency project in Hawaii is saving Kuakini $1.1 million in annual utility expenses.
Metrus, Energi, and Energy Industries worked together to fully design and develop this comprehensive energy-saving program for the hospital under Metrus’ Efficiency Services Agreement (ESA). Metrus funded 100% of the project and Kuakini has no capital outlay on the equipment upgrades. Energy Industries implements the EE measures and provide ongoing maintenance of the equipment over the ESA term. Energi is providing an Energy Savings Warranty (ESW) insurance policy on Energy Industries’ performance. Metrus and Energi continue to deliver results as Better Building Challenge allies with another energy saving retrofit project fully operational.
